UNDER THE RADAR

Some of the greatest games in the history of videogames go unnoticed and unfortunately lead to financial disaster . Games like Hexen when everyone were talking about Duke Nukem games like Psychonauts . Games like COD, Assasins Creed and Need for Speed unfortunately and unjustifiably get all the attention from both media and fans even though alot of times those games are just the next generic overhyped  "enter shooter" "enter zombie themed" game
Here are some games i thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of years that went mostly unnoticed ( even though some of those games had decent sales they sure deserved more if a piece of s*** like Cod can sell 15-20million )

   Serious Sam 3
Ok someone might say to me you talked about generic and you list SS3? A shooter with nothing special to show? SS3 indeed is just a shooter but it does that so amazingly it doesn't need to be slapped Rpg elements or a minigame or whatever the heck devs do to differentiate their game even though at times end up been a complete borefest (looking at you mass effect minigame ). Its a trip to the oldschool fps games. When health packs were around and you didnt have to suck your thumb to heal. A trip back to ridiculous weapons at your disposal and hordes of various enemies including huge bosses to kill

   Trine and Trine 2
Usually i dont play 2D platformers (or even 3d platformers for what it matters ) but something in Trine series from Frozenbyte attracted me in those games. Amazing art direction alongside with some of the best technical graphics for a 2D platformer . Add to that some solid gameplay and great sound effects/music and you have a great game to keep you at your keyboards for 5-6 hours. There are some downsides such as little to no replay value which inherit to the genre and the duration of the games. But for $5-10  you cant find something better. You can even play co-op on the same pc using a keyboard and a gamepad at the same time which is tons of fun

 Skydrift
There is not much to say really about this game aside been great fun. Its a wipeout clone with airplanes. No story no nothing but its a good amount of fun online. If i can blame the dev for something is the lack of local multiplayer . This game screams for something like that. But aside that for $5-10 you get a good wipeout clone that is fun online has some pleasing visuals and tight controls ( which is very important for a game of its kind )

Last but not least Sins of a Solar empire
This one took me by surprised. One of the greatest strategy games since homeworld. Its a strategy game with the only goal to conquer the galaxy. There is no campaign ( which is the only major flaw of the game ) but its highly addictive and you will find your self playing 10 and 15 hours straight  . You choose a galaxy ( which you can customize to your liking via a map editor )  your faction and your enemies and you set to conquer the galaxy. The graphics engine by now its kinda old but it still looks good and having a fleet of a couple of thousand spaceships fighting over a planet its truly epic and amazing . There are a few downsides such as the story or the lack of it that is and more importantly you wont get alot of sleep
It worth mentioning the game has a great modding community and one of the mods let you play in the starwars universe .
